Stress
Stress is the natural reaction of a body to some surprising or challenging situation at some time.
Stress leads to the release of cortisol hormone which in turn results in many different symptoms including increased heart rate as well as an increase in blood pressure.
It is actually some sort of physical or mental factor and can lead to multiple disorders in the body of an individual, typically heart diseases and blood pressure disorders.
Stress can be acute or chronic depending on the time the body is exposed to this condition. If exposed for a shorter time, the condition is considered acute and if the body undergoes stress for a longer period of time, it is chronic.
Symptoms of this disorder include anxiety, headache, and difficulty in concentrating on work as well as loss of sleep.
It can be reduced by medication as well as by physical exercises such as yoga and deep breathing.
If stress prolongs and affects the daily life activities of an individual, then medical help should be taken and cured using some medications [1].
Different remedies are available to cure the disorder, but it is preferred to use some herbal medications that are approved scientifically.
One such herbal remedy is Quercetin which is scientifically proven and is very safe and effective in reducing stress.

Different remedies are available to cure the disorder, but it is preferred to use some herbal medications that are approved scientifically.
One such herbal remedy is Quercetin which is scientifically proven and is very safe and effective in reducing stress.

Quercetin
Quercetin is one of the six subclasses of flavonoid chemicals; it is basically classified as flavanol.
Naturally, quercetin is an auxin transport inhibitor.
The most prevalent flavonoid molecules are quercetin-type flavanols, which are found in plants as quercetin glycosides.
They are present in many parts of the plant as well as in many fruits and vegetables.
Quercetin can benefit many bad health conditions.
It has been proven through clinical experimentation to be very safe and effective against multiple bad health conditions including Cardiovascular diseases, Cancer, Inflammatory disorders, Allergies, Arthritis, Bladder infections, Skin diseases, Diabetes, Blood pressure, Liver disorders, and Dementia.
The effectiveness and safety of quercetin against all these disorders have been proved through scientific experiments.
Quercetin owes its possible antioxidant properties to the phenolic hydroxyl group and the existence of a double bond. Cancer and cardiovascular illnesses can be prevented and treated because of quercetin's antioxidant qualities.
Inflammation is triggered by free radicals in the body; however, antioxidants help scavenge and neutralize free radicals. So, it stands to reason that quercetin, an antioxidant flavonoid, would also have anti-inflammatory characteristics [3].
Multiple studies have shown that daily quercetin supplementation lowers levels of c-reactive protein, an inflammatory biomarker that is increased in illnesses including heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.
The antioxidant quercetin has shown anti-cancer capabilities, which is one of the reasons eating a lot of bright fruits and vegetables is so incredibly healthy. Yet, it has been demonstrated that quercetin prevents the development and multiplication of cancer cells.
Several laboratory and animal studies show quercetin's capacity to slow down the development of cancer cells and even trigger cancer cell death in a variety of cancer types (breast, colon, ovarian, lung, and prostate).
The cardiovascular advantages of quercetin go beyond its anti-inflammatory properties. It decreases high cholesterol, reduces blood pressure, and raises HDL levels. It protects our hearts in many different ways [4].
It has been found that quercetin also plays a crucial role in reducing anxiety and improving sleep in patients having depression. It acts through different processes and is a scientifically proven remedy for such disorders. these processes and different studies of quercetin in this regard will be discussed in this article.
How Quercetin Helps Treat Depression
Many experimental studies have been performed and it has been observed that quercetin plays significant roles in improving the process of sleep as well as in reducing the stress in the body.
It has been found that quercetin acts through multiple processes in the brain and helps in reducing anxiety and treating any depression-related disorders as well as improves sleep so that the patient feels relaxed [5].
Following different mechanisms have been observed through experimental studies that prove the significance of quercetin in treating stress.
Anti-inflammatory Properties
Quercetin plays an important part in reducing inflammation in any part of the body. In most cases, inflammation leads to many negative effects on the body including stress.
So, treating such conditions with quercetin can help in reducing inflammation as well as stress [6].
Antioxidant Properties
Quercetin also has an important role in reducing the amount of oxidative stress in the brain cells.
As the accumulation of ROS can damage the cells and can cause stress, so by reducing such stress and protecting the cells from being damaged, quercetin can lead to a cure for depression.
Neuroprotective Properties
Studies have shown that quercetin plays a crucial role in protecting the cells of the brain from the damage caused by stress.
It can modulate different signaling pathways in the brain that can lead to stress and anxiety.
So, it can cope with reducing the stress in the brain by protecting the cells [7].
Stimulation of GABA Receptors
It has also been found that quercetin has the potential to simulate the signaling of GABA in cells of the brain by modulating GABA receptors.
GABA is a crucial neurotransmitter, and it has important roles in relaxing the body as well as in improving sleep.
When quercetin is taken, it modulates the receptors for GABA which in turn, leads to stimulation of the GABA signaling pathway, so the person feels more relaxed and improvement in sleep quality [8].
Role in Melatonin Production
Quercetin has also been found to have crucial roles in the stimulation of the production of melatonin.
Melatonin helps in improving sleep and reducing stress.
So, quercetin increases the production of melatonin, which in turn, helps in improving sleep and reducing stress.

Preclinical and Clinical Trials Data
The safety and efficacy of quercetin have been checked in animals and humans and its mechanisms have been studied in reducing stress.
Different experimental studies have been performed and quercetin has always proven itself a significant remedy for coping with anxiety and stress.
Preclinical studies performed on different animal models with chronic stress diseases have shown that quercetin can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in brain cells as well as protect the cells of the brain from damage and alleviates all symptoms of anxiety in those animals [9].
Clinical Study for Reducing Stress
Similarly, studies have also been done on human patients with different types of stress disorders and significant results have been observed without any side effects of quercetin.
A study was performed on human patients with chronic stress. This study comprised 60 patients. These were randomly divided into two groups; one group was given a placebo and was taken as a control group. While the second group was given a quercetin compound for 2 months. The results showed that all the symptoms of stress were alleviated in the patients who were given quercetin as compared to those who were given a placebo. Moreover, no side effects of quercetin were seen in any of these patients, proving it a safe and effective remedy for treating anxiety [10].
Clinical Study for Improving Sleep
Another clinical study was performed on human individuals having sleep problems. This included 68 such individuals. They were given quercetin for one month and a significant improvement was observed in their sleep patterns. This was measured clinically as well as confirmed through different questionnaires [11].
So, based on the above data it can be concluded that quercetin is a crucial compound that can be a promising therapy in reducing stress as well as in improving sleep with no side effects.
